Cap and Trade Update
April 18, 2017 at 3:21 PM
The first auction of Greenhouse Gas emissions (held by the MOECC on March 22, 2017), sold out all current allowances and generated $472 million dollars to be invested in climate change programs. True success of the Cap and Trade program, however, will ultimately be determined by its ability to lower emissions. A training session on the auction procedures and the auction and sale platform will be held on April 19th, 2017 and Ontario’s second Cap and Trade auction will be held on June 6, 2017.
On April 5, the MOECC posted proposed amendments to the Cap and Trade and Reporting Regulations on the EBR for comments until May 20, 2017. The amendments include changes to the Guideline and Reporting Regulation and the Methodology for the Distribution of Ontario Emission Allowances Free of Charge.
