AGGREGATE PLANT SUPERVISOR - EAST REGION

Job Description

Canada Building Materials (CBM) Aggregates, a division of St Marys Cement and proud subsidiary of VCNA, is a leading producer of high-quality aggregates. With 16 sand and gravel sites and quarries, CBM supplies essential materials to meet Southern Ontario’s growing demand of 160 to 170 million tonnes annually for construction and infrastructure projects.

What is the Opportunity?

Leading a team of Site Supervisors and/or hourly employees, directing production operations for specific CBM Aggregate plants to ensure efficient use of resources, in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.

What Will You Do?

  • Comply with Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Natural Resources legislation and regulations
  • Implement training, administration and compliance with applicable Health & Safety and Environmental policies and procedures
  • Develop and supervise plans for efficient use of raw materials, machines and employees
  • Develop work process and utilizing SAP systems to ensure plants meet or exceed company goals, objectives and financial performance targets
  • Review production costs, product quality and modify production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operations of specific plants
  • Supervise production and storage of aggregate products in accordance with policies and procedures established by the Regional Manager
  • Review mining sequences and assist in developing mine planning, recommend budget requests and capital requirements to management, complete capital expenditure approval requests and monitor large projects through completion
  • Approves expenditures within defined parameters
  • Source and secure quotes for maintenance materials for the processing plants and mobile equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot plant processes to identify changes and improvements
  • Ability to an analyze statistical operational data (e.g., Hobolink, KPIs, equipment manufacturer reports) and develop and execute appropriate actions
  • Able to troubleshoot plant processes

What Do You Need to Succeed?

  • 3 years supervisory and/or managerial experience
  • Mechanical aptitude including hydraulics, pneumatics and electricity and knowledge of aggregate composition. Ability to interpret and apply technical documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Excellent applied mathematical skills to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Excellent reasoning ability to solve practical problems with numerous variables and limited standardization.
  • Technical/practical/managerial knowledge
  • Knowledge/experience of aggregate processing practices and equipment and aggregate specifications for the construction industry (general construction, road building, concrete and hot mix asphalt technology).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Applied MS Office and ability to utilize SAP
  • Valid Ontario G driver's license as daily travel to sites is required

QUALITY CONTROL REPRESENTATIVE

Job Description

Welcome to CBM Aggregates

Canada Building Materials (CBM) Aggregates, a division of St Marys Cement and proud subsidiary of VCNA, is a leading producer of high-quality aggregates. With 16 sand and gravel sites and quarries, CBM supplies essential materials to meet Southern Ontario’s growing demand of 160 to 170 million tonnes annually for construction and infrastructure projects. As a Quality Control Representative, you will perform quality control testing services for aggregate production (process control) and the sales department (shipping and customer service).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sample aggregate products following CBM and CCIL sampling policies
  • Perform aggregate tests (gradations, physical properties) in accordance with specified test methods
  • Report in a timely and clear fashion the quality of products with regard to production issues (targets, causes, solutions) and shipping issues (end user requirements)
  • Apply statistical process control techniques to analyze production data
  • Maintain laboratory and testing equipment in an appropriate state of repair
  • Enter and process data both manually and on computer software supplied
  • Assist production personnel in production trials, sampling and documenting quality for green-field sites
  • Assist sales personnel in customer service related to test data and product uses
  • Lead process improvement project in a team setting with other CBM employees
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • College certificate in related field preferred (civil engineering, geo disciplines, chemical or biological skills)
  • Three-year college or technical school and five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • People management, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Fundamental knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • To have knowledge of aggregate processing practices and equipment and aggregate specifications for the construction industry (general construction, road building, concrete and hot mix asphalt technology) is an asset, but not required
  • Valid Ontario G driver's license and ability to operate a pick-up truck.
